EDAG Improve Productivity with XENON Cluster

06/06/2007

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA - XENON Systems Pty Ltd has supplied a 100 processor core High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster to EDAG Australia’s CAE Department for data intensive computing. The HPC cluster, named Shiva (Hindu God of destruction), will predominantly run LS-DYNA, a vehicle crashworthiness analysis software, which is currently being used by EDAG to asses the safety of Australian manufactured vehicles.

The computational performance of the Shiva cluster has been outstanding.  It is over three times faster than EDAG’S previous system which means that full vehicle simulations can now be processed in 6 hours compared to 20 hours. This increase in productivity has expanded EDAG’s capability in taking on new customers both locally and internationally.

A core component of this HPC cluster was XENON’s Radon Duo XE2 HPC compute node that features two dual processor Intel XEON servers in a single 1U form factor. The Radon Duo XE2 supports both Intel XEON 5100 series dual-core processors and 5300 series quad-core processors as well as optional integrated Infiniband 20Gbs low high latency high speed interconnect. This intelligent design allows each compute node to scale up to 16 processor cores with up to 4GB of RAM per core in a single 1U server or hundreds of cores with Terabytes of RAM in a HPC cluster.

"This Shiva HPC cluster was specifically designed to achieve maximum performance for engineering codes in a compact power efficient form factor.” said Dragan Dimitrovici, Managing Director of XENON Systems Pty Ltd.

So impressed with XENON's technical expertise and service, EDAG will be expanding the Shiva cluster in the near future. "We specifically chose XENON for this project as they have a solid history in providing customised and optimised HPC cluster solutions that have high system reliability,” said Daniel Williams, Senior CAE Engineer, for EDAG Australia. “XENON not only understood our exact needs but was able to deliver the solution within a very limited time frame.”
