As the need for more predictable outcomes in building development increases, an ability to precisely visualise finished results is becoming vital.
By harnessing skills used in architecture, engineering, and design with the latest computer-aided 3D graphic techniques, an Australian group, Orbit Solutions, is dramatically improving the realism and precision of building development presentations.
Darren Cole-Sinclair: (Building Design) “Six years ago Chris Goss (architect) and I started an architectural design practice and being IT savvy we saw the need for better visualisation of projects.
Sometimes it’s because of building code and planning disputes. Often, with complex developments, harmony with the surrounding environment is difficult to assess with traditional presentation graphics.
Because we were getting involved at various stages in projects, working with architects, developers and planners, Jon Anderson (structural engineer) joined us to be the third stream.
Jon is also heavily into programming which complements our CAD and new media development work. This means we can respond effectively to produce visualised marketing productions at any phase of a development from the inception on.”
Chris Goss: “When we create a presentation to show a building integrated into a photo-managed landscape we use a professional photographer and a surveyor to take photographs with precise angles and levels coordinated and AHD information. we also utilised the photographers lens characteristics in our CAD modelling. Our thorough methods mean that when we produce the finished visuals they are readily accepted as evidence in major VCAT or other critical forums. In the early days we managed with regular computer hardware that we had optioned up, plus generalist IT support company. But as we took on major work we needed to get serious grunt behind our software and build an infrastructure pipeline to cope with our cross skilling and flexibility. For example when you’re running CAD modelling which renders all the reinforcing rods in a multi-storey building’s columns or complex animations and so on you need serious capacity, render nodes, render farms and really solid workstations”.
Darren: “So we looked around and we finally talked to XDT. They immediately understood our situation and what was required to optimise our infrastructure. Through their extensive experience with production pipelines and work flows they analysed and redesigned our network as well as implementing one of their dataSTOR solutions to accommodate our increase in workload with our expanding business.
They’re on line, and because they have qualified systems integration engineering in-house, evolving our infrastructure as we grow is routine for them.
They have evaluated and re-structured our internet services to provide increased bandwidth and functionality at a significantly reduced cost.
Ongoing remote IT and systems assistance is provided by XDT on a regular basis.”
XDT Provides systems analysis, integrated solutions, and a range of products to keep infrastructure pipelines flowing smoothly in broadcast, film/video post-production, animation, graphics and digital content creation.
